Joseph Di Mauro Chorus model, made in Paris around 1950, in very good cosmetic and playable condition.
Here is a beautiful instrument typical of the French post-war period: the Chorus model is usually associated with Antoine Di Mauro, Joseph’s younger brother. However, the elder brother (primarily known for his heart-shaped soundhole models) also produced a fine number of these so-called American-style guitars: their construction characteristics clearly conjure up the archtops produced by Gibson, Epiphone, and others across the Atlantic. The example presented here is uncommon in that it features a rosewood back and sides, as well as a rosewood veneer on the front and back of the headstock, whereas most Joseph Di Mauro guitars have a maple body.
Fully restored for playing in our workshop, this guitar has had a complete refret with period-correct fret wire, before being fitted with a new bone guide nut tailored to the string gauge. We have retained the instrument’s original bridge, readjusting its curve to to the soundboard’s arch and sculpted the ridge for compensation. Original hardware includes the tailpiece and complete set of SB tuners. All adjustments have been meticulously made to achieve a low, comfortable action and optimal intonation.
Sold in a contemporary hardshell case.
