Splendid Martin 00-28C from 1967, an uncommon nylon string model from the Nazareth manufacturer, in very good original condition.

The popularity of classical guitars produced by Martin soared in the 1960s due to the burgeoning folk market’s insatiable appetite for nylon-stringed instruments, with these guitars being more comfortable and easier to play for many beginners than their steel string equivalents, while carrying the guarantee of quality that is the Martin brand. The 00-28C model was initiated in 1966, replacing the previous 00-28G model after a brief stint with a 000-size version between 1962 and 1966. The main difference between the G type and the C type, both models with 12 frets outside the body, lies in the change in the size of the body with wider shoulders in the style of the OM guitars produced from the beginning of the 1930s, in favor of a size with more slim shoulders as on the 00 shapes of pre-1932. This new guitar with a more traditional look was therefore even more focused on the folk market.

For the rest, we find a supply of high quality wood typical of guitars produced during this period – spruce top, the back and sides are made of magnificent Brazilian rosewood, mahogany neck -, a neck with 12 frets outside the body and slotted head. Note a particularity for this model, it presents a fan bracing and a classic guitar bridge, a very unique characteristic among X-braced Martin guitars.

The instrument presented here is one of the 300 examples of 00-28C shipped for the year 1967, and is in superb condition with nice crackling of the finish on the top. Complete professional set up and appraisal done in our workshop, sold in perfect playing condition.
