1988 MARTIN D-35

Martin D-35 from 1988, in very good original condition.

A classic among Martin dreadnoughts, this model was introduced in 1965 at a time when it was becoming complicated to source Brazilian rosewood boards of sufficient size to make the two-part backs of the D-28 models – the D-35 provided the answer to the dilemma, as the back was changed to a three-piece construction. The issue was no more from 1969, since Brazilian rosewood is gradually replaced by Indian rosewood, which is not subject to the restrictions of the first and available in much larger quantities, but Martin maintained style 35 nevertheless and continued production up to the present day.

Although coming from a relatively late production period, this dreadnought attests to the continuity in Martin’s manufacturing quality: the varnish is modern but controlled, the shapes of the neck and the bridge are well worked and the tone woods have been superbly selected. The guitar has been fully optimized for playing in our workshop, with planning and polishing of the frets, adjustment of the action and intonation at the nut: the guitar is perfectly adjusted, in tune and comfortable for long hours of playing.
